1770: Limehouse Cut
The oldest canal in London - built to provide an easier route between the River Thames and the River Lee.

Wapping River Police
1798: The first ever river police station, at Wapping.
Now headquarters of the Metropolitan Police's Marine Support Unit.

1790: Brunswick Dock opens at Blackwall.
Later became part of East India Dock.

1802: West India Docks
This is the north dock, the import dock, with the original warehouses.

1805: Eastern Dock
Part of the London Docks. This dock was retained, and is now known as Shadwell Basin.

Tobacco Dock
1805: Tobacco Dock
This small dock was part of the London Docks and connected the Western Dock (now infilled) with the Eastern Dock (above).

Now exists only as an ornamental dock, but the original warehouses have been kept.

1806: East India Docks
There's not much remaining of these docks, except this small pool outside an office development.

1807: Surrey Docks
90% of the docks were filled in, but half of Canada Dock (now Canada Water) remains as a wildlife refuge.
