| The Lubyanka, the former KGB headquarters. Thousands of political prisoners 'disappeared' in the cells here.
| The White House, the building that was shelled by tanks a few years ago during the attacks on Boris Yeltsin.
| A lively scene with street performers, on Arbat Street. The street is packed with tourists, remarkably few of whom appeared to be westerners. Arbat street retains its bustle until the early hours of the morning with stalls selling russian dolls, MiG helmets and Russian fur hats until late in the evening.

| Plenty of good places to eat around town.

See all the marble and frescoes in this station. The network apparently has more chandeliers than Buckingham Palace.
| The subways are built deep underground with long escalators so that they could double as bomb shelters.

| Rising up behind a jungle of apartment blocks here is the Ostantino tower - the world's second tallest free-standing structure (after Toronto's CN tower).
