This is Bar Harbor, the main town of Mount Desert Island, roughly halfway along the Maine coast. Bar Harbor

Lobster shack
New England, and Maine in particular, is big on lobsters.

The wooden floats attached to this building are used by lobster fishermen to mark the lobster traps - the colour indicating which fisherman the trap belongs to.

We went out with this lobster fisherman to see how the lobsters are caught.
It's a hard job - the traps have to be hauled up one at a time (often with no lobsters) any crabs removed (not usually kept) and rebaited.

The small lobster in the photo was just large enough to be kept legally.
